One of the first things you'll notice about North Carolina's capital city of Raleigh is the fine blend of the city's rich historical past with present. Another is that it's relatively easy to navigate. Nicknamed The City of Oaks, for the many oak trees, Raleigh is the second most populated city in the state after Charlotte.
Visitors can walk through downtown to check out government buildings, historical sites, tour one of the museums on the Bicentennial Mall, visit the Governor's home - the Executive Mansion, or catch government in action at the State Legislative Building.
