One of the first things you'll notice about North Carolina's capital city of Raleigh is the fine blend of the city's rich historical past with present.  Another is that it's relatively easy to navigate.  Nicknamed The City of Oaks, for the many oak trees, Raleigh is the second most populated city in the state after Charlotte.

Visitors can walk through downtown to check out government buildings, historical sites, tour one of the museums on the Bicentennial Mall, visit the Governor's home - the Executive Mansion, or catch government in action at the State Legislative Building.

Downtown Raleigh also has a variety of restaurants, shops, and businesses.  Barbecue fans will love The Pit restaurant where master chef Ed Mitchell cooks up his famous whole hog BBQ, ribs, and sides.  Ed is a Flay Slayer - besting Food

Sports are big in Raleigh.  Professional hockey team, the Carolina Hurricanes, call the RBC Center home, and fans of college sports love the NC State Wolfpack.

The North Carolina State Fairgrounds is located in Raleigh, where something is always happening at the main buildings and the green on weekends.  Festivals, special events, and a large flea market are held on the grounds throughout the year - until Fair time.  The newly renovated North Carolina Museum of Art is nearby.
